Olympic Champion, Shelly-Ann Frasier-Pryce In South Florida For Hot Trot – Jerk 5K Run/Walk

FORT LAUDERDALE – Festivities for South Florida’s Jerk Week will begin when hundreds of avid runners and casual walkers hit the road for the second annual Publix Hot Trot Jerk 5K Run/Walk at Markham Park on November 2, 2014 at 8 a.m.

Following last year’s successful debut, where over 300 persons turned out for the event, the Festival’s organizers are rolling out this year’s event with the hope of increasing numbers and raising more money to help Jamaican athletes through Team Jamaica Bickle Inc. The non-profit organization provides accommodation, transportation and meals for Caribbean athletes at the annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

Festival Director Abdul Muhsin said they didn’t know what to expect last year, but it was a great success with people from all walks of life participating and having a great time with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, pace runner and Olympic & World champion. Fraser-Pryce, who is also Grace Foods Brand Ambassador,  will the get race off to a start again this year.

“What we’re looking forward to this year is to replicate that and have at least 15 percent more people showing up for the event. With the introduction of the Alumni prize, it is expected that the numbers will grow.”

Organizers have issued an Alumni  Challenge to see which Jamaica Alumni Association has the biggest team at the event. Muhsin is urging members to accept the challenge and show their school spirit.

“We always hear about KC, George’s, Wolmer’s and all these school doing a big party; here’s your chance to come out and compete with your alumni rivals. Hot Trot is your spot,” Muhsin said. The alumni team with the most participants will win not only bragging rights, but receive $500 toward their alumni association.
