Non Profit Organization From South Florida Sponsors Students In Jamaica

Non Profit Organization, Education Gateway Foundation provides textbooks and school uniforms for students in Jamaica

Greenacres, FL – Non Profit Organization, Education Gateway Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 formed in 2014, made a powerful impact by sponsoring 26 students in Clarendon, Jamaica in 2015.

non profit organization Education Gateway FoundationThe non profit organization partnered with Jamaica’s Education Officer Patricia Perry of Quality Education Circle #62 (School District) to identify 13 primary schools in Jamaica to support in its inaugural year. They developed an ambitious plan to provide two scholarships per school: one boy/one girl. They successfully funded each school through sponsorships from businesses and donations from the South Florida community.

Education Gateway Foundation (EGF) provides scholarships to the students with unique home challenges.

For example, Peter Douglas, last year’s winner from Rest Primary, goes between homes because his father works seasonally as a farmer. In his essay, Peter describes his living situation in the following way: “I live with my great grandmother who is very old and sick when my father is not working. I know that we don’t have a lot. I don’t try to stress my dad, so I keep satisfy with what I have. Sometimes my sister and I go to school without lunch, but we understand. This scholarship would be a great help to my family.”

We believe a child, like Peter, should not have to worry about the financial stresses of his dad and his great grandmother.

Education Gateway Foundation exists to alleviate some of the families’ financial stress in a concrete way and to support local entrepreneurs.

EGF will provide financial assistance to students in the form of $250 vouchers: $100 for uniform and $150 for textbooks. Families use a voucher to claim their uniform and textbooks. We have partnered with a local bookstore and a local dressmaker to provide these services. Each vendor billed our organization directly to ensure our students took full advantage of the scholarship in the manner in which we intended. EGF invites the community to join us on this mission.

Non Profit Organization, Education Gateway Foundation Plans To Sponsor 52 Students This Year

  2. Be a Sponsor: sponsor 1 student
  3. Be a Friend: donate ANY amount
  4. Share our mission with your network of friends and family (Critical for us to successfully meeting this year’s goal)
