NEVIS – As the 2014 multisport season draws to a close, the Nevis Tourism Authority and the St. Kitts & Nevis Triathlon Federation announces the staging of the Nevis Triathlon, an international Half Iron, Olympic and sprint distance competition played out on the glorious and challenging terrain of the Caribbean island of Nevis on Saturday, November 15th, 2014.

Recognized as one of the most exotic places to race and a must-do on the racing circuit, the 2014 Nevis International Triathlon is one of sports premier races attracting entrants from around the globe including Australia, France, USA, Great Britain, South Africa and Brazil; as well as the Caribbean region. The long distance event consists of a 2 kilometre swim, 90 kilometre bike and a 21 kilometre run, plus a standard Olympic/Sprint distance courses, S1500m/750m, B40k/20k, R10k/5k.

Greg Phillip, Chief Executive Officer of the Nevis Tourism Authority, said, “We are looking forward to again staging the Nevis International Triathlon. Our island is magical and the ‘course’ presents a unique challenge in a stunningly beautiful environment. This is a picturesque and energetic race with a feeling of camaraderie among the participants, many of them returning each year”.

The swim course is right in the heart of Charlestown, the capital of Nevis, with a beach start/finish; the triangular course is 750 metres offering a one lap swim for the sprint distance athletes and two laps for the Olympic distance, and two and one half for the long distance course.

The long distance bike course is tailor made for the strong cyclist/triathlete and calls for 3 laps of Nevis, each lap requiring riders to tackle the 5 kilometre ‘Anaconda’ hill climb, with fast descents and beautiful scenery. The Olympic and sprint courses do not include the hill, but nonetheless will be fast, fun and challenging.

The run course is a one or two lap course for Olympic and Sprint which winds through the center of Charlestown before heading out into the countryside and environs of the charming Bath Village. The run course for the long distance event takes the athletes along the main island road to an area called Cotton Ground and back before doing two laps of the Bath village course. With varied terrain that includes road, dirt tracks, and a stretch along Nevis’ Gallows Bay Beach the run will both entertain and challenge all of our participants.

The Nevis International Triathlon began 13 years ago as part of the celebration of Tourism Week on the island.  Over the years, the event has been recognized internationally for the high standard of competition by triathlon publications.  In 2008 Triathlete Magazine listed it as one of its Top 5 Must-Do Races.  In 2011 Triathlete Europe named it on its list of Top 20 Must-Do Races. In 2011 L’Equipe Magazine listed Nevis as one of its three most exotic locations for triathlon.  For more information on the triathlon contact [email protected], telephone +1.869.664.2843.
