Miami Joins National Day of Action to Stop the Deportations of Dominicans of Haitian Descent and Haitian Migrants
Miami – In the coming days thousands of Haitians and Dominicans of Haitian Descent could be stateless! As the horrific moment in our history continues to unfold much of the international community has remained completely silent on the inhumane treatments of Blacks in the Dominican Republic. It is time that we stand with our sisters and brothers to DEMAND that the Dominican Government STOP THE MASS DEPORTATIONS!
On July 1, Haitian Women of Miami will join cities across the country, including, New York, Washington, DC, Chicago, Los Angeles and Boston for a National Day of Action to stop the deportations of Dominicans of Haitian descent and Haitian migrants.
On Wednesday, July 1st at 10:30am the Haitian Women of Miami will be hosting a press conference from Fanm Ayisyen Nan Miyami, Inc (FANM), Haitian Women of Miami’s, office at 181 NE 82nd Street #101. We will then descend to the Dominican Republic Consulate 1038 Brickell Avenue at 12pm to request a meeting with officials to present a resolution demanding that the Dominican government take action to protect the rights of Dominicans of Haitian descent and Haitian workers in the Dominican Republic.
Haitian Women of Miami also encourage you to join the hundreds of organizations that have signed on to an Open Letter to Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina at http://bit.ly/HaitianLivesMatter. FANM Executive Director, Marleine Bastien says, “It is unacceptable that as this grave humanitarian crisis is unfolding less than a thousand miles away from the U.S., there is complete silence from President Obama, the State Department, the U.N. and U.S. elected leaders with the exception of a few. This is one of the biggest atrocities of our time, and any U.S. or Haitian leader who cannot come out to publicly denounce it does not deserve our votes.”
Their recommendations to the Dominican Government are the following:
- Take all permissible actions to minimize the adverse impact of Constitutional Court ruling No. 168-13
- Create a clear path for Dominicans of Haitian descent to regain their citizenship
- Stop all mass deportations to Haiti
- Afford Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic the rights of due process
- The Dominican government must
- Take all measures necessary to stop all acts of terror against Black Dominicans and their families.
- Stop the pillaging, and protect the home and livelihoods of Black Dominicans and Haitian workers.
- To bring the full of the law to prosecute perpetrators and deter all terrorist acts against dark skin Dominicans.
