Marriott Port-au-Prince Receives Development of the Year Award

Marriott Port-au-Prince,  Haiti’s new flagship hotel honored for its focus on sustainability and revitalizing the local economy

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HaitiThe Marriott Port-au-Prince was honored recently with the 2016 Development of the Year Award at the Caribbean Hotel and Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS).

The all-new 175-room property was honored for its focus on sustainability, as well as its dedicated efforts toward revitalizing the Haitian economy.

“The hard work put forth by our entire staff in support of our comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility program is at the heart of this honor,” said Ellen Wouters, General Manager of the Marriott Port-au-Prince. “We don’t just talk about ‘giving back’ here; the concept is ingrained in our hotel’s DNA. Everyone contributes, making this an especially cherished award that we can all take pride in.”

A collaboration between Marriott International, Clinton Global Initiatives and Digicel Group, the US$45 million Marriott Port-au-Prince opened in February 2015, instantly earning a place among the top city hotels in the Caribbean.

The 175-room property is distinguished by a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility program governing best practices in all areas of hotel operations.

“From volunteering with fantastic local charities like SOS Children’s Villages, to investing in renewable energy, giving preference to local suppliers in all purchasing decisions, and emphasizing local hiring, everything about our hotel is geared toward lifting Haiti higher,” said Wouters. “This award helps to validate that we’re on the right track.”

One of the Caribbean’s most noteworthy hotel investment conferences, the 2016 edition of the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) was held earlier this year at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Miami.
