Jamaica Tourist Board Partners With Chef Irie To Showcase Culinary Delights On New PBS Cooking Series

“Taste the Islands with Chef Irie” Premieres April 4th Nationwide

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Jamaican-born Hugh “Chef Irie” Sinclair will tantalize viewers with traditional and gourmet Caribbean recipes on the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) sponsored cooking series “Taste the Islands with Chef Irie.”  The seven-part series, premiering on April 4, 2015, is the first Caribbean cooking show and the first Jamaican-produced series to be aired nationally on the PBS network.

“Jamaica’s culinary heritage continues to be a popular draw for many visitors looking to experience our destination. Such a series will provide viewers a ‘taste’ of our rich and diverse gastronomic offering,” said Paul Pennicook, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “While Jamaica is world renowned for its jerk cuisine, Chef Irie will prepare a number of our traditional dishes with a unique and non-traditional twist.”

In each episode, Chef Irie will create a mouthwatering fare inspired by his Jamaican heritage, the wider Caribbean, and his travels around the world. For example, steamed Jamaican-style snapper is prepared en papillote and Latin guava cheese pasteles are deconstructed to create a mousse served in phyllo tart shells.

A number of Caribbean celebrities will make cameo appearances including Inner Circle, Maxi Priest, Ato Boldon and Kevin Lyttle. Viewers are encouraged to tune in as the chef and guests discuss food from their native countries, their travels, and offer impromptu cooking lessons.
