The Health Minister of Jamaica has sets up a special agency to clear gifts from overseas

Washington D.C. – A special agency has been established in the Ministry of Health in Jamaica to speedily process gifts and medical supplies that are donated to the island health sector from organizations health missions and members of the Diaspora.
According to Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton the special agency was created as a result of the many concerns expressed to him by various organizations throughout the Diaspora who experience challenges in having these gifts and medical supplies cleared when they arrive in the island.
Dr Tufton told members of the Diaspora at a reception on Friday, September 16 at the embassy of Jamaica in Washington D.C. of this new agency.
The agency is chaired by president of Island Grill Restaurant, Margaret Lyn who understands the importance of efficiency.
He added that the Ministry will be employing new persons which will be able to manage the process and help to make it a lot easier and simpler to contribute to the Jamaica’s health sector.
Dr Tufton said last year Jamaica received over 200 health mission from the Diaspora who administered tremendous services to the public health sector of the country.
The Health Minister announced that he will be launching an initiative called adopt a clinic and urge members of the Diaspora to participate.
This initiative will see them adopting one of the 320 health care primary facilities which will allow them to take charge in helping to administer support to that community health facility.
