Jamaica Diaspora Advisory Board Member Southern USA announces March 7th Town Hall Meeting

SOUTH FLORIDA – On March 7th, 2015 the Jamaica Diaspora Advisory Board Member for the Southern United States will continue his series of on the ground engagement and outreach to the estimated 700,000 Jamaican Diasporians residing in the 13 states region with the staging of a free Diaspora Town Hall Informational Forum. The Forum will be take place at the Holy Family Episcopal Church located at 18501 N.W 7thAve, 33169-4441 Miami Gardens, Florida between the hours of 11:00am – 3:00 pm. The Forum is open to all Jamaican Diasporians, Jamaican Diaspora Organizations, interest groups and friends of Jamaica.

The Honorable Sharon Ffolkes – Abrahams, Esq., M.P, who is currently the Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce in the Government of Jamaica is confirmed as one of the major participants and panelist. Minister Ffolkes- Abrahams is a former Diasporian and Past President of the Jamaican Diaspora Foundation of Canada.  The major goal of the Forum will be to provide a practical and an interactive opportunity for Diasporians to directly address inquiries, propose solutions and identify partnerships and resources for implementation and be updated regarding the following concerns which have been expressed by Diasporians across the region thus far to the board member during his 4-month tenure:

​a. Public safety in Jamaica and more specifically: improvement regarding emergency response services, proposed improvement and Diaspora Partnership.

b. ​Recent changes in Jamaican laws and regulations re: Customs, Charities Act, National Education Trust and Ministry of Health, etc.

c. The Jamaica Diaspora Conference 2015.

d. The Jamaica Diaspora Mapping Project and The Logistic Hub.

Since his September 2015, selection and appointment as the Jamaica Diaspora Advisory Board Member for the Southern United States, Wayne C. Golding Sr. Esq., has been focused on fact-finding outreach and listening tours across the 13 states region in addition to Jamaica. The Forum will provide an opportunity for the board member to publicly report his findings on the current state of the Jamaica Diaspora of the Southern United States and the continuing execution of developed action plans to optimally organize the region.

Other confirmed participants for this landmark Forum will include but are not limited to the Honorable Franz Hall -Consul General of Jamaica, senior ranking officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaican Diaspora law enforcement and other public safety professionals in addition to the Jamaica Customs Department. The format of the Forum will feature at least 3 hours for direct interaction between attendees and the entire slate of featured panelist.

The staging of this March 7th event represents a significant collaboration between the Jamaican Diaspora of the Southern United States, The Consulate of Jamaica – Miami, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, The Jamaica Constabulary Force, The Jamaica Customs Department and several other Diaspora stakeholders.

In order to widely disseminate the valuable information which will be provided thought this Forum, the event will be streamed live worldwide courtesy of IRIETIMES at http://www.irietimes.com.  The streaming will also provide the opportunity for those who cannot physically attend the forum to participate and interact in real time by on line chat and other means.
