Immigration advocates assist green card holders in their naturalization process

Miami – This Saturday October 25th, the Florida New Americans is partnering with Catholic Legal Services of the Archdiocese of Miamiand the Center for Independent Living to assist current eligible green-card holders with their citizenship application. The Florida New Americans (FNA) program, an initiative of the Florida Immigrant Coalition, provides legal assistance, study materials and information to Floridians applying for US citizenship at community events.

Only 10% of the eligible green-card holders apply for citizenship, both nationwide and in Florida. In the majority of the cases, applicants encounter several barriers like money, lack of information and assistance, which affect their capacity to apply.

With the help of our volunteers, Pro Bono attorneys and community partners, legal permanent residents who are eligible to become U.S. citizens now can overcome some of these barriers.
