Fort Lauderdale – Former President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernandez will be honored at The Democracy in the Americas Symposium 2015 as they host their annual Presidential Dinner tonight, Monday, October 12th, at 8:00pm at the Broward County Convention Center.

Leonel Fernandez will be honored for his contribution and continuous support for democracy.

The exclusive feast will gather foreign, national and local leaders, who will network while discussing essential matters related to democracy and other political, social and economic issues affecting the hemisphere, as they prepare for the Democracy in the Americas Symposium (DITAS), which will take place on Thursday, October 15th at the same venue.

Dinner guests will enjoy a performance by the talented student musicians from Guitars Over Guns (GOGO), a non-profit mentorship program that provides at-risk students in Miami with music education.

Four-time Emmy award winning journalist, anchor and investigative reporter for NBC6 South Florida Willard Shepard will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the Presidential Dinner.

Before the Presidential Dinner, a select group of leaders, elected officials and guests will have the opportunity to exchange ideas during the VIP Cocktail, which will take place at a private room at 7PM. This exclusive cocktail is sponsored by The Solution Group, a boutique real estate investment and development firm based in South Florida.

DITAS is an annual gathering of world dignitaries, multi-national corporate leaders, prominent scholars, students and social innovators who discuss the latest trends in policy, trade, technology, social innovation and economic development to improve democracy in the region. The conference is sponsored and organized by the Zambrano Foundation, whose vision affirms that democracy is more than a political system; it is a way of life.

The symposium will gather prominent speakers and panelists, including Florida House Representatives Jose Felix Diaz and David Richardson, SAVE Executive Director Tony Lima, Venezuelan journalist Rafael Poleo and Cuban political activist Rosa Maria Payá.

Speakers and panelists will be available for interviews before and during the event, as well as representatives from the Zambrano Foundation, organizer and main sponsor of DITAS.
