Final Year CARIMAC Students seek Donations for First Ever UWI Alumni House at Mona

Kingston, Jamaica Final year CARIMAC students in Integrated Marketing Communication have been given the task to raise funds towards the first ever UWI Alumni House at Mona. The group known as ‘Platinum Initiatives’ are seeking additional sponsorships and donations to accomplish their objectives by their target date, March 17, 2015.

Located near the Medical, Law, and Business Faculties, The UWI Alumni House will serve as a ‘home’ to alumni at the University – a place to host events, a meeting area for alumni when they visit their alma mater, and a tangible sign of the importance of the UWI alumni family.

According to Ashleigh Barnes, Sponsorship and Public Relations Officer for Platinum Initiatives, they are yet to reach their target of $300,000. “So far we have received tremendous support from JNBS, CaribPest, Goodwill Distributors, Designer Countertops and Joinery, SERV-WEL, General Construction and Power Lines Services, BJ’s Travel Ltd., Sunshine Pharmacy, Carryshel Ltd., Ital Delites, Justin Hadeed Awn, and Carlisa Enterprises,” said Barnes. “However, we are making an appeal to all Mona graduates to give to this exciting venture, as we hope that they will come and enjoy the facilities being created for them.”

Cecile Clayton, President of The UWI Alumni Association, Jamaica Chapter, noted: “This is a wonderful opportunity for graduates of the University to leave a legacy, and to give back to an institution that gave them the opportunity to hone their skills for their respective professions. We hope to provide conference and meeting rooms at the Alumni House for rental to alumni, as well as a venue for receptions and other activities.”

Celia Davidson-Francis, Director of Alumni Relations, UWI Regional Headquarters said:  “We want to ensure that the UWI Alumni House is a source of pride and a haven for alumni members, and contributing to such a project is an enormous step in achieving this.”

Donations of any size are welcome. Interested parties should email Ashleigh Barnes, Sponsorship and Public Relations Officer for Platinum Initiatives, at [email protected], or Camille Wilson at the Institutional Advancement Division, UWI Regional Headquarters, at [email protected].
