Opinion – Debbie Wasserman Schultz

By: Dahlia Walker-Huntington

SOUTH FLORIDA – This United States general election is the most important in our lifetime.

We have a clear choice: Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

One person who is prepared and qualified to lead the greatest country in the world and another who is ignorant, ill-tempered answers off the cuff to important questions, and is interested in one thing and one thing only – winning.

As a democrat I am upset with the timing of the release this past weekend of the WikiLeaks emails hacked from the Democratic National Committee.

These emails paint Congress Woman Debbie Wasserman Schultz in a poor light and is overshadowing the Democratic National Convention scheduled to being at 4PM on Monday. The emails are also affecting party unity.

While I have known Congress Woman Debbie Wasserman Schultz for years and have admired and supported her and still support her, I think she needs to step down now as party chair.

This morning (July 25) she was booed off the stage at the Florida Delegate breakfast in Philadelphia and you can only imagine what the reaction to her will be in front of the entire convention.

I do not want to think about the fracas that will ensue this afternoon if the Congress Woman gavels in the Convention where a good 30-40 percent of the attendees are Senator Sanders supporters.

I am making a personal plea for all concerned Democrats to contact Congress Woman Wasserman Schultz’s office in Pembroke Pines (954-437-3936) to respectfully suggest that she not address/speak to the Convention in Philadelphia.

Thank her for her hard work in getting President Obama re-elected and for all she has done for this Convention, but stress that Democrats cannot have the appearance of disunity and chaos and give Republicans anything to capitalize on from this Convention.

It will be embarrassing for the Congress Woman and for Democrats to have the room erupt in boos against her and for that to become the news instead of the inspiration that will be delivered by tonight’s speakers.

We need to diffuse the impact of the release of these emails and focus on Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine and wining in November.
