MIAMI –  On October 18, 2016 the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners continued its efforts to provide relief to the victims of Hurricane Matthew.

County employees have been given the opportunity to donate leave time to the County’s Emergency Disaster Relief Fund as County leadership works to organize additional support.

Commission Chairman Jean Momestime announced the creation of the South Florida Haiti Relief Group to provide coordinated and transparent relief efforts to Haiti.

The group agreed that Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center will serve as fiscal agent to receive donations in a specially designated account for this effort.

Commissioner Dennis C. Moss supported the organization with an allocation of $2,500 to the Sant La for South Florida Haiti Relief Group and $2,500 to the National Association of the Bahamas (NAB) for hurricane relief.

“Hurricane Matthew left a large path of destruction in the Caribbean and U.S.,” said Commissioner Moss. “Our prayers go out to everyone affected by the storm. We especially pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti where the impact was the greatest and our friends in the Bahamas.”

The Bahamian Connection restaurant located at 4400 NW 2nd Ave., Miami, FL 33127 will serve as the drop off point for much needed hurricane relief items to the Bahamas from Miami-Dade County.
