MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime’s Council for Prosperity Initiatives, in collaboration with the Dr. Antonio Jorge Social and Economic Development Council, will present a Health Care Prosperity Summit on Friday, June 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at HistoryMiami Museum, Miami-Dade Cultural Center, 101 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33130.

The subject of the summit is “Reducing Miami Health Insurance Costs.” Participants will learn about how employers can put pressure on the health care industry to provide better care at lower cost, and how they can keep their employees healthier.

Speakers will include representatives of Jackson Health System, Holy Cross Hospital, and the FIU Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, as well as other experts with decades of experience guiding employers through the health care system.

“According to some estimates, almost half of every dollar spent for health care in the United States is wasted because our system unfortunately rewards health care providers for performing more services instead of providing better care. To make matters worse, insurance costs in Miami are 20 percent higher than the national average, so addressing this problem has to be a top priority for our community’s economic wellbeing,” Chairman Monestime said.

Registration for the summit is $30, which includes continental breakfast and lunch. Proceeds will go to the Dr. Antonio Jorge Foundation, a 501c3 charitable organization.
