Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness to lead ribbon cutting for ‘The Courage to Remember,” a historical exhibit of the Holocaust

BROWARD COUNTY – On Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. on the sixth floor of the Broward County Main Library, Commissioner Holness will lead the ribbon cutting ceremony for “The Courage to Remember,” a historical exhibit of the Holocaust (1933-1945).  “The Courage to Remember” exhibit is being presented by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, SNCF -Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) – The French National Railway Corporation and the Foundation For California; the event is co-sponsored by the Office of Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness and Broward County Libraries.

The exhibit features more than 200 exclusive photographs that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world, offering amazing insight into the Holocaust through four distinct themes: Nazi Germany, 1933-1938; Moving Toward the “Final Solution,” 1939-1941; Annihilation in Nazi-occupied Europe, 1941-1945; and Liberation, Building New Lives.  “The Courage to Remember” traveling exhibit first opened in 1988, and to date, has been seen by millions of people in several countries, among them the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, France, Great Britain, Austria, Brussels, India, Thailand, Russia, Kenya, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Singapore.

The public is invited to the opening ceremony which will include special guest speakers, Holocaust survivors, local officials, and representatives from the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Foundation for California. Introductory remarks will be given by Dr. Alfred Balitzer, Chairman, Foundation for California and by David Prager of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness and Assistant Broward County Libraries Director Laura Connors will also give remarks.

“I attended the May 2012 opening ceremony for “The Courage To Remember” Holocaust Exhibit at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center in the Town of Davie, and when asked, I was happy to assist in bringing this world-renown Exhibit back to Broward County, said Holness.

The Courage to Remember Holocaust Exhibit will be on display through December 29, 2014 during main library hours.  The main library is located at 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.
