New York Times Travel Show the scene for Bahamian revelry
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Bahamian breeze is warming Manhattan as Valery Brown Alce, Senior Director of Global Marketing, Edward Archer, General Manager of the Bahamas Tourist Office, Atlanta and Mikala Moss, Manager of the Bahamas Tourist Office, New York and other representatives are promoting The Bahamas’ newest signature cultural event, the first “Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival ” that will take place in the Islands Of The Bahamas, May 7th to May 9th, 2015.
The delegation was joined by a group of 2 costumed Carnival Junkanooers to provide a sampling of the music that will be enjoyed during carnival week in The Bahamas. Two costumed Carnival revelers are in attendance at the New York Times Travel Show to showcase the pageantry of the parade.
The Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival will be an event like non-other. The annual event spans five weeks beginning on Easter Monday, 2015. Unlike the Bahamas’ renowned Junkanoo , the “Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival” will be an interactive and participatory event open for all in attendance to join in and take part in the fun and excitement.
Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival will feature a smorgasbord of cultural activities including Bahamian cuisine, street parades, costume contests, music and dance shows, poetry readings, visual arts available for viewing and for sale, all depicting the diverse cross section of Bahamian culture and heritage. Of course no cultural event in The Bahamas will be complete without Junkanoo, so it will be well represented and a grand ball will be a highlight of this celebratory week.
