4th Annual Taste of Haiti Expects Larger, More Diverse Crowd

NORTH MIAMI – Haitian gastronomy and culture will be spotlighted and celebrated at the Taste of Haiti Festival, which will take over the plaza at the Museum of Contemporary Arts (MOCA) in North Miami on Saturday, May 14.

taste-of-haitiNow in its fourth year, the Taste of Haiti festival has grown larger in just a short time and attracts a diversity of foodies and cultural enthusiasts who come to indulge in culinary delights by dozens of food vendors. From dishes like widely popular griot served with a side of fried plantains to rice and peas, stewed conch, and Caribbean flavors like curry and jerk, the Taste of Haiti is a foodie lover’s playground.

An estimated 5,000 – 7,000 attendees are expected at this year’s festival.

This free family friendly event has something for everyone whether Haitian or not. Attendees of the Taste of Haiti can enjoy fierce competitors and cooking demonstrations at the Top Chef Cook-Off featuring celebrity trainer ‘The Naked Chef’ Jaques Laventure and Chef Irie of the PBS ‘Taste of Island’ cooking show. The cook-off will feature celebrity chef judges Ron Duprat from Bravo’s TV Top Chef, Chef Amadeus from Extreme Chef, and the Queen of Haitian Media Elizabeth Guerin.

In addition to the food and competitions, expect an all day party with music by Dj Nicky Mix hosted by Haitian poet Mecca aka Grimmo and co-hosted by Brown Sugar, including live performances. There will also be activities for the entire family.

The Taste of Haiti will be at the plaza at MOCA Museum from 2pm – 10pm at 770 NE 125th Street in North Miami. The event is free to the general public and presented by the Haitian Culinary Alliance in collaboration with the Office of Chairman Jean Monestime, Miami-Dade District 2, the City of North Miami, the Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in Miami, the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida, and the Little Haiti Optimist Club.
